St David's Day

Dydd Gŵyl Dewi Sant Hapus!

1st March is St David’s Day, so what better occasion to talk a little bit about Welsh, Britain’s oldest language! In fact, compared to Welsh, English is a relative newcomer to these islands. When the Romans arrived on our shores two thousand years ago, it was a version of Welsh that they would have heard people speaking. Traces of early-Welsh (sometimes called Brittonic) can still be found in English place-names such as Malvern, Wenlock and Bredon.

Today Welsh is a vibrant language spoken by a quarter of the population of modern Wales. Welsh language culture is flourishing and, increasingly, brands and businesses that want to make an impact in Wales are choosing to produce their marketing and materials in both languages.

At MTT, we are proud to provide English <> Welsh translation services by working with a small team of specialist linguists. Da iawn!
